Kids Talking Across Rhode Island

Calling all Rhode Island classrooms and public library book groups with students in grades 3-6! It’s time to start talking about the 2015 Kids Reading Across Rhode Island book, Flora & Ulysses by award winning author and National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature, Kate DiCamillo.

After sharing Flora & Ulysses please join us at the State House on Saturday, May 9th from 2:00pm-4:00pm to meet Kate DiCamillo in person. The author will be on hand to give a talk and autograph books. Each family will receive a FREE signed copy of Flora & Ulysses! The day’s events will also include games, activities, and a special stage adaptation of Flora & Ulysses performed by the TRPPL Play! theater ensemble.

Teachers and Librarians! Here are some ways to join in.

  1. Read along with other classrooms and libraries across the state.Talk about the assigned chapters with your class or book club and share their thoughts and comments under each group of discussion questions.
  2. Send information about your great activities to kidsrari@gmail.com and we will post them for other classrooms and libraries to enjoy!
  3. Skype, email, or send “real” letters with another classroom or library book group in Rhode Island. Email kidsrari@gmail.com and include: teacher/librarian name, school/library, grade, number of participants, and if you want to Skype, email, or write letters. Please indicate if you’d like a one-time exchange or regular communication. You will be connected with another classroom as quickly as possible so you can create your plan of action!
  4. Do your students have a burning question for Kate DiCamillo? Email them to kidsrari@gmail.com and we’ll invite her to join the conversation.
